Curfew Idea Promoted to Stem Thames Crime

By John Freer

The introduction of a curfew on young people is a suggestion to curb crime in Thames according to the local community board chairman Adrian Catran.

This yesterday after four properties in Pollen Street had been hit in one night. Valley Toyota had five windows broken, the Gastronomics ornamental elephant was smashed, graffiti was placed on a Grahamstown shop and a person tried to dig up and steal a tree from Twentymans.

When asked about potential solutions he referenced a situation a number of years ago where a new police officer came to a town with similar problems dealing to them with a curfew.

He said consideration was needed to see if the likes of community patrol could attract more volunteers to increase their support of police.
